Our Story

Our Story — From Our Home Kitchen to Yours ❤️

In our family, Thekua was always more than a sweet - it’s a symbol of love, tradition, and togetherness.

For years, my mother-in-law and I had been making Thekua for years, not just during Chhath Puja, but also whenever anybody from our family set out on a journey. It was our way of taking home along - a little bit of Purvanchal that travelled with us wherever we went.

Every batch we made was full of laughter, warmth, and the familiar smell of jaggery dissolving into flour - a precious reminder of our roots. Every piece is still molded by hand, using the traditional wooden saancha (mold) that has been in our kitchen for years. It’s our way of making each bite look and feel truly authentic.

For a long time, sharing our Thekua with our neighbors has been a tradition in itself. They tasted the difference—the familiar crispness, the balanced sweetness, the care in every piece. It was their genuine enthusiasm, expressed consistently over the years, that first led them to ask us: "Why don't you sell this online? Everyone should get to taste this!"

We were hesitant. Taking a beloved family tradition into the online world felt like a giant leap. But now that my children are grown and responsibilities lighter, the thought of sharing our heritage felt more possible. When my brother-in-law ("ननदोई") and sister-in-law ("ननद") began encouraging us too—gently nudging us to take the plunge—it became the final push we needed. Their belief, combined with the warmth finally gave us the confidence to take the step.

And so, we created Purvanchal Sanesh, which means "A Gift from Purvanchal." We offer our handcrafted Gud Thekua, made lovingly in our home kitchen, just the way it’s been made for generations: with natural ingredients, the perfect blend of ghee and frying oil, and a lot of heart.

(Purvanchal is the area of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Eastern UP.)

From our family to yours — we invite you to experience our handcrafted Gud Thekua. Let every bite bring you the warmth of home, the sweetness of tradition, and the spirit of Purvanchal.
